How well do you know yourself?
To me, this seemed like a basic enough question. Followed by a basic answer; “I know me better than anyone.” And that might be true. But how do you really know yourself down to the core, unless you’ve actually spent time getting to know yourself? Most of us don’t put in this needed time towards self discovery and awareness. At least, not enough.
This is an epidemic.
How much time do you spend alone? And in this time, how much of your thinking is directed towards you? As a human being? It’s easy to think about how you wish you looked. It’s easy to think about the new shoes you want to buy. It’s easy to think about all the things you want to possess in order to feel fulfilled because of course; possessions equal in fulfilment…(can we pleeaase STOP THE MADNESS)
What about what you love? What makes you happy? What makes you angry? Do you get jealous? Do you get lonely? Why? What are your strengths? What are your weaknesses? What do you do to work on them? What makes you different? What are your talents? Yes, you have one. Are you using it? Why not? What do you wish you could do if you had no limitations? What are your limitations? Write these things down. You might be surprised with your answers. You might not know all the answers. And that’s okay. Often times we never answer these questions until someone else asks us. We forget about the most important relationship we are in. The one with ourselves.
Getting to know yourself is the first step to becoming a truly confident and happy person. Someone can point out your strengths, and instead of being surprised, you can feel appreciated. Someone can point out your weaknesses, and instead of taking offence, you can be grateful for the reminder. The awareness you have turns everything into a positive. Nobody can tell you anything about yourself that you don’t already know. And if someone says something about you that is not true, you can laugh. Because ain’t nobody got time for that. Seek your truth. This should be your main goal in life. Everything else can fall back.
